FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Organization Formed to Defend the Interests of Montana Students and Public Schools

(MONTANA) - Today Representative Moffie Funk announced the formation of Montanans Organized for Education (MOFE) Action Fund. The organization’s primary purpose is to defend the interests of Montana students and the Montana Constitution by opposing school privatization in Big Sky Country.

Specifically, MOFE is dedicated to

  1. Opposing the privatization of public schools
  2. Opposing public dollars being used to fund private for-profit schools
  3. Supporting adequate investments in public education
  4. Supporting publicly funded public pre-k
  5. Supporting investments in educator attraction and retention

“Montana’s commitment to public education has always been strong. Unfortunately, special interests from both inside and outside Montana are pouring cash into our state in an attempt to privatize our schools. Why? Because they see our kids and our schools as commodities that should be sold off to the highest bidder,” said Representative Moffie Funk, Executive Director of MOFE. “It’s our intention to draw a line in the sand on this issue before Montana becomes like so many other states whose public schools have been scrapped and sold for parts.”

In recent years, Montana has seen a surge in lobbying pressure from special interest groups touting so-called “school choice,” a term which masks a reckless agenda aimed at diverting public dollars to for-profit schools and institutions.

In addition to Representative Moffie Funk, the MOFE’s Board of Directors includes

Jack Copps, Retired Educator and Superintendent
Lisa Cordingley, Helena Education Foundation Executive Director
Amanda Curtis, Educator and former State Representative
John Heenan, Attorney
Jesse Laslovich, Attorney
Jill Laslovich, Attorney
Clara McRae, Student
Dennis Parman, Montana Rural Education Association Executive Director
Amanda Penley, Student

We have the virtual platform ready for you to upload images for the 2021 Virtual Youth Art Exhibition.
Please follow the link to the 2021 MAEA Virtual Youth Art Month Exhibit HERE.  It is in a Google Slide format.
We ask that everyone participate, but only upload 2-3 works per specialist.
There are a few slides at the beginning giving format guidance. Please inquire if you have questions. The closer you adhere to the requested format the easier it will be for YAM Chair Victor Daniel of Helena and I to prepare for presentation.
The deadline for uploading will be next Wednesday, March 3, 2021.
After that deadline, Victor and I will refine the presentation, convert it to a movie file, and upload it to YouTube.
We will post the virtual show on the MAEA website and send out a link via email so you can use it on your school and district websites, for promotion in local businesses and board meetings or anywhere there is a screen connected to the internet.
If you need it in another format, just let us know. We will be happy to share it as a slide presentation as well.
