School Board Ballots Have Arrived

4/19/2017

Election to the School Board is a responsibility not to be taken lightly.  Article X, Section 8 of the Montana Constitution articulates the role of trustees as follows:

Section 8. School district trustees. The supervision and control of schools in each school district  shall be vested in a board of trustees to be elected as provided by law.

In Montana, the responsibility for a quality public education lies squarely on the shoulders of those elected to the local school board.
Taking this into consideration, the Great Falls Education Association, requested each of the six candidates running for election to the school board to complete a questionnaire consisting of seven (7) questions.  After analysis of the given responses, GFEA officers serving as COPE Board members read and discussed the responses provided.  This committee chose to endorse the following candidates:

Jason Brantley
Jan Cahill
Don Ryan

It may be of note too, that the committee was supportive of Jacob Griffith knowing that with an opportunity to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of a school board member, in time he would be a good candidate.  He is certainly passionate and committed to our schools.
The committee did not hear back from Patrick Flaherty.
To assist you in making your decision when you fill out your ballot, you will find the responses of the candidates linked below:
