The Great Falls Education Association awarded community members and educators for their support of public education and activities for youth in the Great Falls community during its recent recognition of the 2015 teacher retirees.
The GFEA 2015 Outstanding Educator award was given to Jeff Rieger. He works as the Extended Curriculum Services instructor for several GFPS district elementary schools. Teacher Gary Jenkins said, “Jeff is a humble man who is generous with his time and talents. He is patient, kind, amiable, devoted to his work, students and family. Jeff Rieger is a role model for students and fellow educators alike.”
The Golden Key of Professionalism was awarded to Jolee Corey, an elementary teacher from Chief Joseph. Her educational involvement has shown her extraordinary leadership as a strong advocate and voice for educators.
Mark Magers, owner of MaxStone Marble and Granite, received the Individual Silver Apple Award for his donation of materials to the programs at both high schools involved with the High School Houses. He was recognized for his time spent instructing students about the state of the art digital equipment used in building counter tops. He is also an active supporter of the Industrial Technologies and Career and Technical Education programs in Great Falls.
The Lions Club earned recognition with a Silver Apple Award as a civic group of people who for many years have actively provided eye doctors’ appointments and glasses to elementary school children. This group also collects and supports the elementary school food pantry along with providing an annual, free pancake breakfast for Morningside School students and parents.
Silver Key Award recipients were Gary Copeland from Great Falls High School; Shelli Lavinder-Schwalk from CMR High School; Stephanie Olson from Chief Joseph Elementary; and Scott Mayer from Sacajawea Elementary. The award acknowledges those individuals whose sustaining efforts have advanced public education and an independent teaching profession.
The Outstanding Faculty Representative Awards were given to April Senger from Great Falls High School; Shelli Lavinder-Schwalk and Tom Cubbage from CMR High School; Scott Pasek from Paris Gibson Educational Center; Cheri Stordahl from Lewis & Clark Elementary, Jeremy Smith from North Middle School; Karin Langbehn from West Elementary; and Pam Margaris from Loy Elementary.
